FEMA PROJECts

It’s hard to tell a FEMA project without program.  With the chance of three FEMA projects happening at one time, Western is looking forward to putting one ice storm in the history books.  FEMA 1 is close to being done.  The Ice Storm of 2005 brought 128 miles of damaged line to our system.  Now the end is near for the project with less than 10 miles to go.

We will soon be saying goodbye to our temporary outpost in Quinter and setting up shop in a new location for FEMA 2 in WaKeeney.

The location is just down the road from our main office and will be a convenient location to store supplies for the crews working on rebuilding lines that were damaged from the Ice Storm of 2006.

Temporary repairs were made back in late December last year and all through January and much of Febrary of this year, but now is the time for the rebuilding to start.  Why such a wait?  Well, we have been waiting for the official approval from FEMA for assistance in making the rebuild happen.  We have just recently been given the go ahead to sign on a contractor and get things underway for a storage site for additional supplies.  And the rebuild will follow very soon.

So, check back for updates on the progress of FEMA 2.  And look for news on whether we will have a FEMA 3.  After the load of damages mother nature laid on our system over the past week, the Ellsworth area suffered many downed lines.  We will see if the Ice Storm of 2007 brought enough damage for another FEMA project.

Only a few more miles to go!!!
